Winter Warmer 2013

Thanks to fatwomble for putting together this video of the run:

Winter Warmer 2009

The Winter Warmer is back for 2009. This time, we will be taking the opportunity to raise a bit of cash for the Surrey Air Ambulance. These good people provide a valuable service to not only Surrey, but also Sussex.

Unfortunately, we have felt it necessary to limit the number of cars on the run to 40. However we would love to see as many of you as possible at the cafe at Hayling Island for breakfast.

To find out more, please keep an eye on the event thread

Summer Run 2007

The Summer Run is nearly upon us. You can get the Tomtom itinery file from the link below.
Download file

When loading the route, select 'Fastest route' as I have not tested
it with any of the other options.

Please note that for reasons unknown to me, Tomtom thinks it is not possible to turn right off the A272 onto the B2133 and so instructs you to continue to the roundabout and turn back on yourself so you can turn left to the B2133.

When loading the route, select 'Fastest route' as I have not tested it with any of the other options.

To load the route onto Tomtom, copy the file to the itn directory on your device and you should then be able to select this route from within Tomtom's Itinery menu.

For those of you who need a Garmin file, you can get it from the following link: Download file
Thanks go to JohnF for this.

For those who prefer the rustle of a good old fashioned map the run route can be downloaded in pdf from here:

Download file

It is 1.6Mb so will take a moment or two to open. It's designed to print double-sided but will work fine on single side too!

Even if you're using the Tomtom route it's worth having a look at the pdf as I've included some 'caution' notes to highlight tricky parts or potential hazards on route.

Winter Warmer

Video courtesy of Trigger

The WinterWarmer route is the feisty grandfather of the classic 'Fish & Chip' run. The route isn't very long, so just make sure you have at least half a tank of petrol when you arrive : we won't be driving near many petrol stations, and you don't want to be late for Breakfast!

The Meeting Point
The meeting point is the car park at Ockham Common.

It's best to meet early. We've met at 0630 before, leaving at about 0730 crisp, empty roads.

At the M25 Junction 10 roundabout use the exit for the southbound A3, towards Guildford. Once on the sliproad, stay in the left lane and turn left before you get to the A3 proper at the junction on the sliproad signposted for Ockham Common and Effingham and immediately turn left again into the car park.

There's a greasy spoon cafe there and toilets. If you need petrol or other facilities, there are services a couple of miles along the Southbound A3 towards Guildford. There is also a convenient toilet stop about 10 minutes into the drive at Newlands Corner.

The Route
The route details can be found here:
There are 2 pdf files, a small one (300Kb) with just the text details of the route and a larger one (4.6Mb) with embedded maps as well as text.

Getting Home
To get back home, most of you will probably want to take the A3, which is the quickest and most direct route towards the M25 (for both clockwise and anticlockwise directions).

To get to the A3, do the following:
Head North from Hayling Island to the A27
Join the A27 Heading west towards Portsmouth (and London)
Come off the A27 at the next junction and follow signs to the A3

A more interesting route involves a trip to Chichester's roundabout strewn ring road (always a laugh), which eventually leads to the A285 that heads back towards Petworth, from which you can do the run in reverse until Ockley, at which point you continue on to Leatherhead and the M25.
