SELOC Invasion of the Frimley Green Village Carnival

Tony Vincent (Flying Banana)

On July 13th 2008, over 20 SELOC members and their cars converged on the Village of Frimley Green to take part in the annual Village Carnival parade and fair. Second only the the Fire Engine and marching band that traditionally leads the parade down the Frimley Green Road, the cavalcade of multicoloured Lotii wowed the crowds with much light flashing, horn tooting and engine revving along the mile long parade route.

It all started in 2007 when a member of the Carnival Committee spotted SELOC member Tony Vincent (Flying Banana) washing his S1 111s one Sunday afternoon and casually asked if he'd be interested in "Getting a couple of cars" together for the 2008 parade. A few months later, the call came and SELOC responded magnificently, with cars coming from as far afield as Kings Lynn to take part. Almost every variant of S1 and S2 Elise/Exige was represented, along with an Elise Trophy Race car and two 2-11s. Around 12 of the drivers provided chauffeur services to former Carnival Princesses and Princesses-in-waiting from past years in the parade.

As well as the parade, the cars were parked up in a micro car show around the green, which allowed the locals to have a chance to sit in the cars, take photos and make "brum-brum" noises to their hearts content.

SELOC also ran a competition on the day to win a passenger experience at a Carlimits Activity day, in which entrants had to guess how many balloons were crammed into Dave Skegg's ET Race Elise, which was parked in pride of place in the middle of the green for the duration of the event.

With bucket collections en-route, and the takings from the competition, SELOC raised a very worthwhile £300 for local charities. Feedback from carnival attendees was very positive, including one or two "Best bit of the Carnival" comments.

Many thanks to everyone who took part and brought their cars to the event, the SELOC directors for supplying T-Shirts and other merchandise for the event competition, Dave Skeggs for allowing his car to be crammed with Balloons and for loaning us his race marquee, and Azlan Cuttilan (Azlan) and Delwynne Ranner (Spacefrog) for helping set up, blow up/pop balloons, and tear down the SELOC marquee (and especially for the balloon animals).
